Short Stirrup Classes
Both classes are open to any Youth rider who is age 10 or under on January 1 of the current year. There will be no penalty for holding the saddle with either hand. The rider may ride with standard reins, or with any type of closed reins and may ride with one or two hands on the reins at any time during the class.
Short Stirrup (walk/trot) - This class is designed for the young rider who is not ready to lope yet, but is ready to ride through a modified pattern at the jog, guiding the horse by themselves. This class will use a WPRHA Short Stirrup pattern, which can be found here.
Short Stirrup - Open to riders who are 10 years of age and under as of January 1st on any mare or gelding. This class can be ridden with one or two hands at any time during the class. This class will follow all NRHA rules.
Short Stirrup Ranch Riding - Open to riders who are 10 years of age and under as of January 1st on any mare of gelding. This class can be ridden with one or two hands at any time during the class. If the pattern calls for a lope, the rider may choose to perform an extended trot in lieu of a lope without penalty.
